Camera Obscura as an Artistic Aid (contd.)
Its strength as an aid to drawing resides in its ability to distil
onto a flat surface the confused visual information which
strikes the eye. It was much used by Dutch still-life and by
topographical painters. Eminent practitioners include the
Dutch genre painter Vermeer in the 17th century and the
Veduta painter Canaletto in the 18th century.
